The Paris Agreement is a global treaty to combat climate change, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It’s was agreed in Paris in December 2015 and entered into force on 4 November 2016.
The key content of the Paris Agreement is:
- Keeping global warming below 2 degrees, but preferably below 1.5 degrees
- Increasing ambitions over time with 5 year cycles
- Rich countries supporting poor countries, new target on climate finance 2025

The Paris Agreement was a big accomplishment, but far from adequate to keep the world safely below 2 degrees of global warming.
